According to Xinhua news agency, Singapore's minister of environment and water resources, Ma shangao, announced at the third environment Partnership Forum recently that Singapore will set up a new climate research department and invest 10 million Singapore dollars (about 50 million yuan) in the next five years for the national sea level research program.

On the same day, about 200 representatives from business, universities and non-governmental organizations attended the environment Partnership Forum jointly organized by the Ministry of environment and water and the British Embassy in Singapore.

Ma said the Singapore government will set up the office of climate science research program next year, which is affiliated with the Singapore climate research center. The centre will spend S $10 million on the national sea level research plan, which was proposed earlier this year, and will start inviting Singapore research institutions to submit research plans next month. At the same time, cross sectoral cooperation will be carried out to develop a national climate science research blueprint and improve Singapore's capacity to cope with climate change.

It is understood that the national sea level research plan will focus on areas that may have a significant impact on Singapore, including sea level rise, the impact of climate change on water resources, the impact of climate warming on human health and energy, etc.

Ma said that Singapore is an island country with low-lying coastal areas, and climate change is vital to its survival. The climate science research program office will work closely with researchers from research institutions and universities in Singapore to use their expertise to conduct cutting-edge climate science research.
